Hunt on for Demafelis’ recruiter: DOLE

MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is working with other government agencies to locate the recruiter of Joanna Demafelis.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, however, refused to divulge the identity of the recruiter of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose corpse was found inside a freezer in Kuwait two weeks ago, DOLE spokesperson Raul Francia said Thursday.

“Yes, the recruiter has been identified, but the Secretary would not make public the identity so as not to disrupt the operation to get the recruiter,” Francia said.

He said the agency has requested the National Bureau of Investigation to look for the recruiter and file appropriate criminal charges.

“The interagency anti-illegal recruitment task force is also hot on the trail of the recruiter,” he added.

Demafelis’ body was found inside a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait on February 8.

Her case has prompted President Rodrigo R. Duterte to impose a deployment ban of Filipino workers, particularly new hires, to the Arab state. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
