IACT: Enforcement operations ongoing amid 70% capacity for PUVs

The Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (IACT) on Saturday (Nov. 6) said enforcement operations are ongoing in line with the 70% capacity expansion for public utility vehicles (PUVs).

“Sa unang araw ng pilot implementation ng 70% seating capacity rule ay nakapagtala ang IACT ng higit 200 PUVs na napara,” IACT chief Bgen. Manuel Gonzales said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Karamihan dito punuan talaga. Iba pa nga ang mga may nakatayo na nakita ng mga enforcer natin na mahigpit nating ipinagbabawal simula noong pinayagan ang public transport sa lansangan,” he said.

Aside from the overloading violation, the agency has also caught seatbelt violators, Gonzales said.

According to Gonzales, the IACT also prevents bringing along children since there are still no guidelines present for said situation.

“Ipinagbabawal ng IACT, mga enforcer natin na magdala ng bata, na magsakay, kasi wala pa namang guidelines dito ang ating pamunuan.”

Meanwhile, Gonzales said they are coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on decongestion measures.

“Tumutulong kami sa mga pag-alis ng mga obstruction sa mga major thoroughfares,” he said.

“Tumutulong din kami sa MMDA para ma-clear ang tinatawag nating alternate route aside from EDSA,” he added. – PG – bny
