IATF meets with Laguna LGU to boost COVID-19 response

Some officials of the IATF on Wednesday visited Laguna to further strengthen the COVID-19 response of the province and discussed measures to decrease transmission.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Aῆo observed that the transmission rate is high in most companies in Laguna. It has been reported that 70 to 80 percent of those who tested positive for the disease are employees, particularly at the Laguna Techno Park where almost 2,000 companies are located.

Proper isolation was not monitored as most of the companies conducted swab testing for their employees but did not inform the local government or barangays.

Among the problems observed is the lack of targeted mass testing in the province. Only around 400 are tested, falling short of the daily target of 500 for each city. The IATF assured it will help in boosting the testing capacity and in adding more isolation units.

To address the issues, health protocols are now being strengthened in companies in Laguna. Aside from placing alcohols and footbaths, wearing of face masks and physical distancing, gatherings inside canteens and smoking areas during “yosi” break will be prohibited. The protocols are being considered for implementation nationwide.

As of August 4, 3 p.m., there are 3,548 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Laguna and 1,798 are active. The death toll is at 110 and recovery count is at 1,640. There are currently 3,209 suspected and 79 probable cases
