LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte’s League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators has cited the importance of land use planning to mitigate the impact of climate change.
In a meeting with stakeholders held at the Provincial Capitol on Friday, Provincial Board Member Vicentito Lazo said “it is high time for local government units (LGUs) to get serious in reviewing their comprehensive land use plan (CLUP) and implementing it properly.”
“We need to become pro-active,” Lazo said, noting that Ilocos Norte is currently updating its CLUP, which is geared towards making the province sustainable, livable and resilient.
Local planning and development coordinators from the LGUs have been tasked to review existing policies and implement them strictly.
For one, LGUs are poised to regulate the operation of piggery and poultry farms and amend some guidelines in the issuance of environment clearance certificates.
The revised CLUP of Ilocos Norte is a long-term framework plan defining the province’s desired physical pattern of growth. It is pending for review by policymakers.
