Ilocos Norte PNP lays down security preps for summer

LAOAG CITY — With the expected influx of tourists to the northern gateway of Luzon this summer vacation, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Ilocos Norte said it has started crafting security plans to achieve zero crime incident particularly affecting visitors.

Director Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. of the provincial police office said Thursday they would increase police visibility in various tourist destinations in the province in coordination with local government units and other tourism stakeholders.

The onset of summer is expected to be officially declared by the state weather bureau soon but residents here are now gearing up for the hottest months of the year.

In downtown Laoag, vendors of various coolers, wide and colorful hats and sleeveless cotton shirts and shorts are now becoming familiar sights along street corners and in commercial establishments.

While walking the streets, some people are seen with handy electric fans, umbrellas and sunglasses.

As hotter days are expected ahead, consumers are also buying sunblock screens and lotions with ultraviolet rays protection. (PNA)
