Ilocos Norte town bans firecrackers

LAOAG CITY — In time for the holiday season, the municipality of Bangui, Ilocos Norte has passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in all public spaces.

For the safety of the public, town Mayor Fidel Cimatu encouraged his constituents to celebrate the Yuletide season with merrymaking activities without using firecrackers or fireworks display.

All firecrackers will be banned from any public space, including city streets, roads, alleys, open spaces, public parks, plazas, basketball courts and other similar places.

Violators shall be fined with a corresponding penalty.

In previous years, the town of Bangui was among those reported with fireworks injury cases in the province.  (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
