LAOAG CITY—To keep abreast with the educational changes and needs of students, at least 10 units of advance computers were given to learners of the Batac National High School–Bungon Campus on Wednesday.
The public school in Batac City, located in the second district of Ilocos Norte, is the latest beneficiary of the continuing distribution of computers to some schools in the province courtesy of Alorica Teleservices Inc., a Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) company based in San Nicolas town.
The computer distribution program is in support of Ilocos Norte’s full-swing implementation of its province-wide Information and Communication Technology project, enabling more learners to have ultimate access to various learning materials available online.
Senior Board Member Matthew Joseph Manotoc led the distribution activity, telling students to “keep on learning new things and take advantage of new technology to explore and discover your passion in life”.
Of the four provinces in Region 1, Ilocos Norte boasts of its high literacy rate of 98.2 based on the latest statistical record of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The public school system in the province is now starting to do away with the traditional paper and pencil classroom discussion as DepEd try to adopt to the so-called 21st century model classroom , featuring advanced computers placed in each table for students, connected to a central server, and can be viewed in a 3D-capable television.
This way, learners are expected to excel when they are equipped with state-of-the-art technology for better learning.
After the distribution, teachers and students expressed their gratitude for the donation of computers in their school.
Through an earlier memorandum of agreement, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP or Provincial Board) have authorized Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos to receive the computers from the BPO company.
In previous years, hundreds of computers were donated to some far-flung schools in the first district of Ilocos Norte to boost learners’ computer literacy level and competitiveness. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
