ILOILO CITY — Twenty police officers under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) received separate awards Thursday for the successful campaign against illegal drugs and for initiating programs to address issues involving children-at-risk of this city.
Ten police officers led by ICPO director Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas and Chief Inspector Juvy Navales of the Mandurriao Police Station received the Medalya ng Kagalingan from Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6).
Also awarded were PO3 Alberto S. Sardua Jr.; PO2s Ruel C. Honggo, John Marcel A. San Pedro, Cyril D. Maestre, Bernard O. Jocsing, and Philip Marlou E. Espejo; and PO1s Ildefonso de la Cruz Jr. and Jordan A. Jamolo.
The group was cited for their successful arrest of the newly-identified target in Iloilo City on January 5 in this city’s Mandurriao district.
The buy-bust operation that was conducted at Niceville Subdivision, Barangay Oñate de Leon resulted to the apprehension of Kenneth Oregin, 20, and his companion Dan KC Banes, 25.
The operation that was conducted jointly with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also led to the seizure of 24 sachets of suspected shabu, buy-bust money and a weighing scale.
On the other hand, personnel of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) led by Senior Inspector Shella Mae A. Sangrines received the Medalya ng Kasanayan for spearheading Project BONG (Bringing Order to the Nemesis of Gang).
Sangrines said the program was initiated to address children and youth group violence by conducting program and activities, youth camps, seminars outreach programs and cleanup drives.
The intention she said was to “make them useful and productive members of the community.”
The awardees also included Senior Inspector Mary Grace D. Borio; SPO3s Debbie C. Yocogco and Maricel Guevara; PO3 Mericar C. Galido; SPO2 Emily D. Arostique; PO2s Ana Mae G. Calawigan, Mishele P. Lapating, and Amy Gerline G. Acevedo; and PO1 Fritzie E. Dionesio.
The awarding ceremony was held during the sendoff ceremony for the thousands of troops deployed to secure the 50th Dinagyang Festival Thursday. (Perla Lena/PNA)
