ILOILO CITY — Iloilo province’s 19 towns and one component city received their respective quick response (QR) code systems on Wednesday that will provide tourists with essential information about their area.

The recipient towns are Miag-ao, Oton, Leon, Leganes, Badiangan, Cabatuan, Passi City, Dingle, Carles, Concepcion, San Joaquin, Alimodian, Ajuy, Igbaras, Janiuay, Banate,Sta. Barbara,Tigbauan, Guimbal and Tubungan.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Office of Culture, Arts, History and Tourism, the local government units received their QR systems in a ceremony at the Capitol Lobby.

In a media interview, Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin, said they are just the first batch of recipients of the QR systems and they are targeting to provide the remaining 23 towns by next year.

He said they are targeting to completely cover the remaining towns before summer season in time for the influx of tourists.

Using Android phone and other hi-tech phones, people could scan the system to generate a lot of information.

The provincial government has partnered with Smart Communications for the QR code system project.

Marin said the QR code system will be installed in strategic areas of each town, like municipal hall where tourists could drop by when they are visiting the town.

“This will help our LGUs to promote basically the attractions and give options among the foreign and local tourists where to go like historical places and man-made attractions,” he said.

Early this year, a QR code system has been installed at the Casa Real (Old Capitol) as among the pilot areas, providing information about the rich history of the province, including the historical structure of the old Capitol.

Marin said the system has really helped visitors acquire the needed information they want about the province.
