ILOILO CITY — Some 130 aspiring and established women entrepreneurs from Iloilo on Friday availed of free training on how to use technology to market their business, specifically Facebook tools.

Gina Romero, chief executive officer and co-founder of Connected Women, said Facebook has a worldwide initiative that empowers women entrepreneurs, who were tapped to “run this Facebook and Instagram training here in the Philippines.”

“Connected women’s mission is really to help women use technology so they can grow their businesses, also they can work from home and earn online. Facebook approached us specifically to be the partner for the #SheMeansBusiness here in the Philippines,” Romero said.

Through this initiative, participants get to know about online marketing, Facebook pages and admin tools and content rules, among others.

“More for using Facebook tools to promote their business products and services, learning FB pages, learning how to administer, especially the business pages, learning how to create content, learn to understand the audience they are trying to target. FB is one of the best tools if not the best tool in marketing a business right now, especially if you are a small business,” she added.

Friday’s event was more of an introduction but Romero said they will be expanding to online training.

“We will be providing the modules to them through the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) Tech4ED centers and also online so they can revisit the training. We have a group where they can actually participate and share their best practices with each other,” she said.

Connected Women also partnered with the DICT for this event.

They bring the training to areas that are part of the Emerging Cities, Next Wave cities or hailed as Centers of Excellence for Information Technology – Business Process Management industry by the IT Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and the DICT.

This year, the Connected Women targets to train 1,000 women in the country. Training sessions were already conducted in Makati, Davao, Cebu, Zambonga, Cagayan de Oro and Clark. They intend to bring the initiative to Naga, Bacolod and Puerto Princesa.

“I really believe that by empowering women with technology, we can keep more women home so they can earn while raising their families, just like the vision of the Connected Women here in the Philippines,” Romero said, adding that she came back from the United Kingdom and Singapore to bring the project to the Philippines. (Perla Lena/PNA)
