ILOILO CITY – Ilonggo Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Angelo Claveria, who was killed in South Korea, will be laid to his final rest on Friday afternoon.
A mass will be offered at 2 p.m. at the Cabatuan Parish Church. The burial will follow at the town’s Catholic cemetery according to Angelo’s sister, Mayette, in an interview Thursday.
She said Hans Leo Cacdac, Administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is expected to attend the burial.
Mayette said they have received a call from the OWWA office in Iloilo that Cacdac would be arriving during the burial of their brother, and they expect that he would talk with them regarding the case of their brother.
She added that Cacdac may also bring the personal belongings of their brother that were left in Korea before he was killed.
Mayette said they are hoping that justice will finally be given to his brother after his burial.
“I would like the government to pursue the case against the person responsible for the killing of my brother,” she said.
As of the moment, she said that they have not received any updates yet on the development of the case of his brother.
On the same day that the remains of Angelo arrived in his hometown last May 27, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go visited his wake at Zone 4, Rizal St. Poblacion Ilaya, Cabatuan.
Go assured the Claveria family that the government is doing everything to bring justice to Angelo.
He relayed that President Rodrigo Duterte will be going to South Korea on June 3 and one of the reasons of his visit is to tackle the issue about the killing of the OFW.
Mayette said that Go’s statement is a big help for them.
“I told my siblings that we will see what the results will be when the President comes back,” she said.
Earlier, OWWA handed PHP220,000 worth of check to the Claveria family as death benefit and burial assistance. Go also gave PHP20,000 cash from his office.
Apart from these assistance, the provincial office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Iloilo also committed livelihood assistance worth PHP20,000.
Angelo left to work in a factory in South Korea in 2014. He made his last communication with his family on Christmas Eve of 2015.
