‘Immunity Booster Program’ ng isang resort sa Quezon hindi isang medical emergency—DOT

Iginiit ng Department of Tourism na hindi maituturing na “medical emergency” ang hatid na serbisyo na “Immunity Booster Program” sa isang eksklusibong hotel resort na Balesin Island Club.

Laman ng programa ang antigen swab test, immune booster pack, thalassotherapy, IV immune drip, at hyperbaric oxygen treatment na umano’y makapagpapalakas ng katawan ng isang tao laban sa COVID-19.

Ngunit noong Lunes, ika-22 ng Marso, ipinagbawal ang non-essential travel mula sa NCR plus bubble (Bulacan, Rival, Cavite at Laguna) na nasa ilalim ng general community quarantine papunta sa ibang rehiyon hanggang sa ika-4 ng Abril.

Ngunit iginiit ng Balesin Island Club na isang exception o mapagbibigyan ang pagbyahe ng mga turista mula sa NCR plus bubble papunta sa kanilang resort dahil “medical emergency” na maituturing ang isa sa kanilang serbisyo.

“In August last year, when NCR was locked down, Balesin was allowed to reopen for precisely the same medical reason. All Balesin visitors were required to undergo an Immunity Booster Program at Aegle Wellness Center. Aegle Wellness Center is an extensive medical facility on Balesin, which is staffed by doctors and other medical personnel on a 24/7 basis,” nakasaad sa pahayag ng Balesin Island Club.

Sa Laging Handa Public Briefing, sinabi ni Usec. Benito Bengzon Jr. na nakikipagugnayan na ang kagawaran sa naturang resort.

“Hindi pinapayagan ang movement from NCR plus to that particular resort. Kung sinasabing ginagawa nila ito dati, maaring ginagawa nila ito noong wala pang restrictions pero sa ngayon very clear ang guidelines ng IATF hindi ka pwede lumabas sa tinatawag nating bubble except for exeptional cases, humanitarian or medical emergency,” ayon sa opisyal.

Nakiusap din ang DOT sa mga turista at tourism establishments na sumunod sa alituntunin ng IATF upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.

“Sa nakikita po namin, hindi maituturing na medical emergency yung ino-offer nilang services. Ang request namin sa mga travelers, sundin ang guidelines base sa IATF Resolution 104,” dagdag ni Bengzon.

Matapos ang anunsyo ng IATF sa paghihigpit sa NCR plus bubble, agad pinulong ng DOT ang mga airlines, hotels, resorts, at travel agencies upang i-rebook o i-refund ang mga guest na nag-book ng kanilang serbisyo sa susunod na dalawang linggo.

“Makakaapekto itong bagong paghihigpit dahil historically itong pagpasok ng holy week ay peak period for domestic travel marami sa pamilya, magkakaibigan namamasyal pagdating ng holy week,” ayon kay Bengzon.

Muling ipinaalala ng kagawaran ang mahigpit na pagsunod sa health protocols para sa mabagal ngunit siguradong pagbangon ng sector ng turismo. -Report from Naomi Tiburcio
