ITF-Philta development training camp set Dec. 14-18

MANILA — The Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), in cooperation with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), will hold a national development training camp from Dec. 14 to 18 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Malate, Manila.

Jonathan Stubbs, who began his role as ITF Development Officer for South, Southeast and East Asia in January this year, will be coming over to supervise the five-day camp, which will be joined by the top three players boys and girls (12 to 16 years old) from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila.

Stubbs, who is based in Hong Kong, is a high-performance coach who was appointed director of player development for the Hong Kong Tennis Association. He also served as national coach of the Brunei Tennis Association and the United Arab Emirates Tennis Association.

Among the lecturers are fitness coach Jimbo Saret, who will explain conditioning in tennis ; many-time Davis Cup team coach Martin Misa, who will discuss planning and goal-setting; San Beda head coach Jovy Mamawal, who will talk about school-based programs; and Jessica Agra, who will share her story as a former player who is now a law graduate.

Representatives from the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine will also discuss nutrition, psychology and how to handle injuries.

Roland Kraut, the multi-titled coach of De La Salle University and the only ITF Level 3 coach in the Philippines, will join Philta national coaches namely Czarina Mae Arevalo, Patrick John Tierro, Johnny Arcilla, Tom Falcis and Davis Alano during the camp to be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A mini-tournament will be held on the final day of the camp before the closing ceremony
