Janine Pontejos rules FIBA 3×3 World Cup shootout

BOCAUE, Bulacan — Janine Pontejos showed that girls can beat the boys in a three-point, or in the case of 3×3 basketball, a two-point shootout.

The Perlas sniper struck gold for the Philippines by ruling the FIBA 3×3 World Cup shootout at the Philippine Arena here on Tuesday.

Actually, the girls prevailed over the boys as Pontejos and Russia’s Alexandra Stolyar each tallied 14 points, way better than the scores of male finalists Marin Hrvoje of Croatia (11) and Maksim Dybovskii of Russia (7).

However, Pontejos got into 14 points in 41.86 seconds, barely eight seconds faster than Stolyar, who made 14 in 49.9 seconds. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
