MANILA — President Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed former Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod to the DOLE’s National Maritime Polytechnic as executive director III.

Duterte signed Maglunsod’s appointment paper on Jan. 25 but it was released to media on Monday (January 28).

In October last year, the President announced that he has fired Maglunsod but did not provide any reason.

Maglunsod was reportedly among the left-leaning officials appointed by the President.

The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), an attached agency of the DOLE, is the only government maritime training and research center in the Philippines.

Its main functions are the conduct of specialization and upgrading courses for merchant marine officers and ratings, conduct of competency assessment for merchant marine officers and ratings, and conduct of research and studies on the latest maritime technologies and other related matters.

Duterte appointed Ana Colting Dione to replace Maglunsod as DOLE undersecretary.

Meanwhile, the President also named Noel Eugene M. Servigon as ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Ma. Teresita C. Daza as ambassador to Chile with concurrent jurisdiction over Ecuador and Peru.
