June 13 deadline for filing poll contribution/expense stays: Comelec

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday reminded candidates in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) to file their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) on or before Wednesday, June 13.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez noted that so far, there have been no talks to extend the deadline for the filing of SOCEs for those who ran in the last village and youth elections last month.

“So far, there has been no talks about extending the deadline,” Jimenez said in an interview.

Last week, Jimenez said that all local poll offices nationwide are open on Tuesday, June 12, to receive SOCEs.

The day is a regular holiday nationwide in celebration of Independence Day.

The law states that every candidate shall, within 30 days after the day of the election, file their full, true, and itemized statement of all contributions and expenditures in connection with the election.

During the May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections, the poll body had extended the deadline of the filing of SOCE, from June 8, 2016 to June 30, 2016. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
