Karaoke, videoke sessions banned during class hours in Manila

The local government of Manila has issued an ordinance banning videoke, karaoke, and other loud sound-producing devices during class hours.

The announcement was made on Thursday, October 8, through Ordinance No. 8688. A motorcade went around the districts on Friday to remind residents on the prohibition Mondays through Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5;00 p.m.

“Naatasan kami na gawin itong motorcade na ito at paalalahanan namin. Kung makikita niyo, halos buong District from 1 to 6 inikutan natin (We were assigned to conduct the motorcade to remind them. You would notice that we made rounds for almost the entirety of Districts 1 to 6),” Manila Barangay Bureau Dir. Romeo Bagay.

Parents and students welcomed the move of the city government since there would be no more unnecessary background noises which could interfere with online learning. The DILG and the PNP earlier urged barangays to pass ordinances on the matter.

Barangay officials and police personnel have been assigned to strictly enforce the directive. Violators of the ordinance will be fined Php 1,000 to Php 3,000. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
