Kuwaiti killer of OFW sentenced to death

A criminal court of Kuwait has handed down the death penalty to the killer of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Jeanelyn Villavende.

The Kuwaiti female employer was proven to have abused and killed her Filipina worker last December 2019.

The incident prompted the Philippines to implement a deployment ban of household workers to the said country during the early part of 2020.

“According to the lawyer engaged by our Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, Fawziya Al Sabah, the Court’s decision was fair and in accordance with the law and Sharia as the accused assaulted OFW Villavende for days, and imprisoned her in a room until her death,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Brigido Dulay shared in Twitter.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has welcomed the sentence issued by the criminal court and expressed gratitude to the Philippine Embassy lawyer Fawziya Al Sabah and to the Kuwait Ambassador to the Philippines. – PTV News
