Labor group ready to work with PRRD to stop ‘endo’

MANILA — A labor group on Tuesday expressed willingness to work with President Rodrigo Duterte to be able to fulfill his promise to end contractualization.

“The ALU-TUCP (Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines) is looking forward to constructively engage President Duterte and work with him to ensure that the Duterte government will finally fulfill the Presidential promise to end contractualization,” ALU-TUCP spokesperson Allan Tanjusay said in a statement.

Tanjusay noted that they expect the President to certify as urgent the Security of Tenure (SOT) Bill.

“Now that our President has added his voice to the clamor for Congress to immediately pass the Security of Tenure Bill, we await his certification of the bill as an urgent Administration measure,” he added.

The bill is now with the office of Sen. Joel Villanueva after passing the third reading of the House of Representatives, as sponsored by TUCP Party-List Rep. Raymond Mendoza.

“The latest version of the SOT Bill determines labor-only contracting as done by an agency, cooperative or contractor, that merely recruits and deploys workers to a principal firm,” Tanjusay explained.

On Monday, Duterte said he will ask Congress to pass a bill that will finally end contractualization in the country.

“That is why I add my voice in asking Congress to pass legislation ending the practice of contractualization once and for all,” the President said during his third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

He also reported that some 300,000 private sector employees were regularized. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
