Lady on viral dance challenge apologizes to MMDA

MANILA – The lady, who was shown in a viral video dancing the “Kiki Challenge” along Epifanio delos Santos Ave. (EDSA), apologized to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday.

The lady, identified as Micha Anne Gabuten, met with MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago to extend her apology.

“The girl on the viral video had a meeting with me to apologize. Hindi ko po siya pinatawag (I did not summon her),” Pialago said in a text message to reporters.

Despite the apology, Gabuten will still be paying a PHP500 fine for violating the Anti-Jaywalking Act while the driver of the vehicle will be fined PHP500 for reckless driving and PHP150 for obstruction.

In a press briefing Thursday, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia urged Gabuten to make a public apology and warned the public not to do the viral dance challenge as it puts the safety of motorists and pedestrians at risk.

The agency has coordinated with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in locating the girl.

The MMDA and the Department of Transportation said those participating in the “Kiki Challenge” is violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, which carries fines ranging from PHP5,000 to PHP15,000. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
