CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna — Laguna police acting provincial director Senior Supt. Kirby Jhon B. Kraft has formed a special investigation and tactical group tasked to track down the killers of a police officer assigned at provincial police office.
Kraft also vowed “to utilize all necessary and legal means to locate the suspects and make sure that they will be punished,” as he condemned the slaying of Police Officer 2 Gerald P. Bonifacio on Holy Tuesday (March 27) in Barangay Hanggan in Calauan, Laguna.
In a statement released Wednesday, Kraft said “the trademark of ruthless treachery of the unknown suspects has reared its ugly head in this latest attack against PO2 Bonifacio.”
Calauan police investigators said Bonifacio parked his Suzuki motorcycle, which ran out of gasoline at Wilma Barreto’s Garden at the Hanggan village to look for a gasoline station where he could gas up.
While waiting for a ride about 10 meters away from his parked motorcycle, two motorcycle-riding assailants suddenly appeared and the back rider shot the police officer twice, killing him on the spot.
The assailants then fled towards the nearby town of Bay, Laguna.
Two empty shells and deformed slug were recovered and were turned over to the Provincial Crime Laboratory Office (PCLO) here for examination while Bonifacio’s three mobile phones were brought to Calauan police station for proper disposition.
Bonifacio was reassigned at the Laguna provincial police Personnel Holding and Accounting Section (PHAS) here since Jan. 29 while under investigation.
The slain cop’s mobile phone revealed that he had received death threats through text messages from an unidentified suspect on Dec. 18, 2017. (PNA)
