Lanao del Sur town holds special polls

By Myris Lee

Twelve barangays in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur held a special election on Tuesday, May 24, after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared a failure of election in the areas due to poll-related violence during the May 9 polls.

In the Laging Handa briefing, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said 60 personnel of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army were tapped to serve as special board of election inspectors to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of polls in 15 precincts in Tubaran.

Garcia said they expect almost 6,921 certificates of canvass from Tubaran residents which they are targeting to submit tonight to the National Board of Canvassers who are currently canvassing votes for the 2022 presidential and vice presidential elections.

– gb
