Landslides still hit village in Ormoc

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte July 8 — The local government of Ormoc is keeping a close watch on Cabintan village located at the hilly area some 23 kilometers from the city center due to continuing landslides in the area after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake which rock Leyte province on Thursday.

Data taken from the board posted at the city hall’s incident command post as of 12:33 p.m. on Saturday showed that Cabintan was one of the five villages in Ormoc identified to have been severely affected by the tremor. The other barangays include Cabaon-an, Danao, Milagro, and Tongonan.

Food packs were provided to the affected families, reports said but did not include the number of recipients and the amount and types of food distributed. On Thursday, city officials appealed for generators to pump water wells to provide potable water to the people.

Information from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have partially accounted 2,698 “quake-affected” houses in the city, however, the report did not clarify the state of the “affected” residences.

The board data also showed one confirmed fatality with 41 people admitted to four city hospitals. The number of people who got hurt and injured due to the quake and then discharged from the hospital after treatment was placed at 181.
