The Lapu-Lapu City local government imposed stricter measures, including a ‘no vaccine, no entry’ policy in public and private markets to curb the surge of COVID-19 cases in the city.
In an executive order signed on Monday (July 26), Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan temporarily suspended all forms of sports and sporting events, all types of non-essential mass gatherings, and karaoke activities that are likely to become superspreaders of COVID-19.
The order to temporarily suspend these activities is effective from July 26 to August 25.
Executive Order 2021-040 Section 4 also states that effective on August 25, only vaccinated persons are allowed “to enter public and private markets including department stores, supermarkets, grocery stores, and convenience stores.”
Meanwhile, weddings, birthday parties, and baptisms are not suspended, but there should be “strict compliance [with] existing public health safety standards.”
According to a Philippine News Agency report, Chan admitted in a radio interview that the city has a low vaccination turnout and he sees the need to bolster efforts to reach the 70% population protection.
“We will wait until August 25. Let’s balance the number of our residents who will get vaccinated. Let’s wait and see, it’s not yet final as we will evaluate the turnout in our vaccination centers,” Chan said.
Chan appealed to Lapu-Lapu City residents to cooperate with the local government in observing the minimum health protocols as well as in its effort to inoculate the target population to reach the protection goal against COVID-19.
