MANILA — A total of eight international and domestic flights were delayed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) late Saturday night due to a lightning alert.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) issued a red lightning alert at 9:51 p.m., and lowered this to yellow alert at 10:27 p.m. The alert was lifted at 10:47 p.m.
During red lightning alert, the ramp movement for both aircraft and ramp personnel is temporarily suspended.
It serves as safety measure to prevent any untoward incident from happening when lightning is prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger passengers, personnel, and flight operations.
Meanwhile, there were no diverted flights due to lightning alert, according to MIAA.
