The Liong Tek Go Family Association gave P7 million cash donation for the reconstruction of school buildings destroyed during the armed conflict in Marawi City.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte witnessed the signing of the Deed of Donation between Tiong Rosario and Department of Education Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla in Malacañan Palace on Tuesday, December, 12.

The Go families originated in Shanxi Province in China with some members eventually settling and establishing their businesses in the Philippines.

The Liong Tek Go Family Association was established in the Philippines to keep track of its members after the clan grew substantially.

It was initially founded as a social club to keep the family members in touch with each other and through the years slowly evolved to become not only a social club but also a charitable institution.

It also provides educational, medical and financial assistance to needy members of the Go family.

As the family continued to grow and spread throughout the country, the association established provincial chapters after World War II, initially in Leyte and then later in Cebu.

Similar associations were founded in Zamboanga, Davao City, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Surigao, Bacolod as well as Central and Northern Luzon. (PND)
