Lower House probes into contracts with water concessionaires

The House of Representatives, led by the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, looks into the agreements forged between the Philippine state and the water concessionaires. The legislative body imposes that said water providers must be sincere towards the Filipino citizenry, which can be manifested via the waiver of the PHP11 billion award from the permanent court of arbitration in Singapore. The Lower House adds that said firms should not only be susceptible to the amendment of the onerous stipulations in the concession agreement, but also take the lead on the revision of the same.

In the course of the hearing, the Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company, Inc. stated that they will no longer seek the enforcement of said ruling. They also express that they will comply with what President Rodrigo Duterte intends on the matter.

The House of Representatives also investigates the existing Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) with respect to their impact in the country’s economy.
