MANILA — A low-pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In a weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran said the LPA still has a slim chance of becoming a typhoon, but would bring rains to both eastern Visayas and Mindanao.
As of 3 p.m. on Friday, the LPA was last spotted 500 kilometers east of Guiauan, Eastern Samar.
Duran further said another LPA was spotted at the Pacific Ocean, located 1,970 kilometers east of northern Luzon.
He said this has a chance of becoming a typhoon and is forecast to enter the PAR over the weekend.
The trough of the LPA, which also enhances the southwest monsoon, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Caraga, eastern Visayas, Bulacan, and Pampanga within the next 24 hours. The state weather bureau also cautioned of possible flash floods or landslides due to light to moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas.
The southwest monsoon will also bring rains to western Visayas, Palawan, Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas. PAGASA similarly warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to light to moderate with occasional heavy rains in these areas.
Other areas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers caused by local thunderstorms. PAGASA cautioned of possible flash floods or landslides due to light to moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas.
Northern and central Luzon will also have moderate to occasionally rough coastal waters, blown by moderate to occasionally strong winds from the south to southeast.
Other areas will have moderate to occasionally rough coastal waters caused by moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest to west.
PAGASA sees a temperature range of 17-32°C across the country until Tuesday.
