LPA, ‘habagat’ to bring scattered rains over Manila, W. Visayas

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and Western Visayas due to the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area (LPA), the weather bureau said Wednesday.

Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. bulletin.

The LPA was last tracked at 265 km. north-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, or 115 km. east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

“This LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. However, we do not discard the possibility that this LPA may develop into a tropical depression,” Grace Castañeda of PAGASA said.

The LPA will continue to move north and could reach close to northern Luzon, Castañeda added.

“Take precautions against possible flooding and landslides, especially for those living in low-lying areas,” she said.

The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, she added.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the western section of Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – bny
