LPA spotted off eastern Samar

MANILA— The weather bureau is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to bring rains in northern Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. forecast that the LPA was last observed at 1,000 kilometers east of Guiuan on Thursday.

It also continues to monitor Typhoon Jebi outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), some 3,030 kilometers east of northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is moving northwest at 20 kph.

Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Northern and the western section of northern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds from southwest to south with moderate to rough coastal waters.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 25-33 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 24-34 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 16-24 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 24-32 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 22-31 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 25-32 degrees Celsius and Metro Davao 23-34 degrees Celsius. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
