LPA spotted off Surigao del Sur

MANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Surigao del Sur will bring rains to most parts of the country Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

Weather forecaster Samuel Duran said the LPA was last observed at 625 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Palawan and Mindanao.

“Ito pong LPA na binabantayan natin sa ngayon ay mababa ang tsansa na maging ganap bagyo ngunit possible na tumawid dito sa [Mindanao] areas sa mga susunod na araw,” he said.

Meanwhile, a northeast monsoon or amihan is affecting northern Luzon. PAGASA said while there is no tropical cyclone surrounding the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorm.

Due to wind convergence of the trough of the LPA and northeast monsoon, Aurora province will be cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

The regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, and Cordillera, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with possible isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. (Lily O. Ramos/PNA)
