LTO encourages motorists to opt for motor vehicle inspection

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) still encourages the motorists to get their vehicles inspected in Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (PMVIC) in spite of the order on non-mandatory inspection.

“Ang pakiusap sa taumbayan o motorista para mapatunayan na ligtas ang sasakyan i-submit nila ito sa total check up. Parang katawan ng tao na susuriin lang isang bahagi ng katawan mo, mapapabayaan na ang performance ng ibang parte (We appeal to the public or motorists that for them to prove that their car is safe, they should submit it for a total check-up. Just like the human body, if only one part is evaluated, the performance of other parts will be neglected),” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante pointed out.

After the Palace order, vehicle owners can now choose between PMVIC and Private Emission Testing Centers (PETC). The inspection rates in PMVICs have been lowered to ₱600 for light vehicles, ₱500 for motorcycles, and ₱300 for jeepneys. The re-inspection fee will be waived for one year if a car fails the inspection.

“Hindi naman sa binabalewala natin ito na inferior but rather na ang PETC ang ini-inspect lang nito ay emission samantalang ang MVIC ay buong perfomance ng sasakyan. Hindi ito interchangeable, hindi ito equivalent (It’s not like we are brushing off the PETC as inferior but rather it only inspects the emission while the MVIC focuses on the whole performance of the car. This is not interchangeable, this is not equivalent),” Galvante clarified. – Report from Karen Villanda
