LTO offers 10-year license validity for drivers with ‘clean record’

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is offering a driver’s license with a 10-year validity to 5-year driver’s license holders without any traffic violations.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante stated that the 10-year validity is an “incentive” since the law is ordering a stricter process of granting a license as provided for in Republic Act No. 10930 that was signed on 2017.

The LTO issued in 2019 the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for demerit points. If the license holder has a single demerit point beginning last year, the holder is disqualified from the 10-year validity. Drivers with a 3-year validity license are not qualified to apply.
The LTO assured that there are no additional fees since this is considered as one process but the rate per year of the 10-year license will be paid. – Report from Karen Villanda
