LTO to set cap on driving school fees by end-March

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will soon set a cap on driving school fees for theoretical driving and practical driving courses.

In a media forum on Saturday, March 11, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo Tugade said the agency will release the order for standardization of fees among driving schools by the end of March.

“[A] few days ago, nag-meeting kami ng committee na [binuo] natin at mayroon na silang na-prepare na reasonable standard rate fees that I plan to roll out dito sa mga driving school,” Tugade said.

This comes after receiving various complaints from applicants about unreasonable driving course fees.

Digitalization on LTO processes

To serve the public and its stakeholders more “efficiently and swiftly,” the LTO said it is pushing digitalization on more of its processes.

“Kami sa LTO ngayon, isa sa mga proyekto na isinusulong namin ay ang digitalization sa aming ahensiya. Isa sa mga ginagawa namin para mapagtibay ang digitalization ay talagang pinapadali namin iyong pag-transact ng mga publiko sa ahensya po namin,” Tugade said.

“Bukod doon, marami pa tayong mga problema na nakikita sa ating ahensiya at iyong mga problema na iyon ay ina-analyze po natin, ini-evaluate natin and we are trying to see how we can digitalize or computerize the process,” Tugade added.

The LTO chief emphasized that such digitalization projects are among its programs to eliminate fixers and corruption. CF/With report from Joshua Garcia – gb
