LuLu Group to buy up to USD20-M worth of goods from PH

MANILA — Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Charito Plaza revealed that an Abu Dhabi-based retail giant will buy some USD10-million worth of goods from the Philippines this year, and that the figure will jump to USD20 million by 2019.

She told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that purchases made by LuLu Group International locally will then be exported to the Middle East and other countries where its retail chain operates.

On Wednesday, LuLu Group and its local subsidiary May Exports Philippines will inaugurate its Warehouse No. 1 at the Calamba Premiere International Park.

The warehouse will process and handle products, such as dry foods, bananas, seafood, fruits and vegetables, dry fish, textiles, electronics, households, furniture and other value-added food and non-food products, as well as other general merchandise before they are exported to the Middle East.

Plaza earlier revealed the LuLu Group also has plans to put up a supermarket in the country, strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia.

LuLu Supermarkets are present in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
It reportedly opened its 150th hypermarket in Riyadh last month.

The LuLu Group operates in 21 countries with investments in hypermarkets, shopping malls, imports and exports, trading, shipping, information technology, travel and tourism, and education. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
