Magnitude 4.9 quake jolts Occidental Mindoro

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Occidental Mindoro early Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

State seismologists reported that the tremor hit 13 kilometers (km) west of Abra de Ilog around 4:46 a.m.

The tectonic quake had a depth of focus of 11 km. 

Based on the information bulletin updated by Phivolcs at 5:27 a.m. of Feb. 1, the following are the recorded instrumental intensities:

Intensity IV:

  • Occidental Mindoro
    • Abra de Ilog
    • Mamburao

Intensity III

  • Oriental Mindoro
    • Calapan City

Intensity II

  • Cavite
    • Tagaytay City

Intensity I

  • Batangas
    • Batangas City
    • Cuenca
    • Mataas na Kahoy
    • San Luis

Phivolcs said that damages to infrastructure are expected, however there may be aftershocks. – avds
