A special non-working holiday was declared in the City of Manila for its celebration of the city’s 450th Founding Anniversary on Thursday (June 24).

Presidential Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Proclamation No. 1167 on Monday (June 21), stating that it is fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion.

He reminded that ceremonies shall be subjected to community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures.

According to Bloomberg Philanthropies, the City of Manila was one of the 50 Champion Cities out of 600 countries worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Philippine News Agency reported the inauguration of Manila City’s first Muslim Cemetery and Cultural Hall located inside the Manila South Cemetery on June 7 as part of its 450th founding anniversary.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said it is the city’s way of paying tribute to Muslims, especially those in Manila, for their services in the nation’s capital. – rir
