Manhunt on for militiaman who killed colleague in N. Cotabato

PIKIT, North Cotabato – Police in North Cotabato has launched a manhunt against a militiaman who shot dead a colleague inside a para-military detachment in Barangay Ginatilan here Thursday night following a heated argument.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato police spokesperson, identified the slain member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) as Esmail Tanto, 43, a resident of Barangay Langayen here, and assigned with CAFGU’s 31st Citizen Active Auxiliary Company.

Tayong identified the suspect as Alberto Caburnay who fled after pumping eight M14 rifle bullets on Tanto at past 8 p.m. Before the shooting, Tanto and Caburnay had a quarrel inside their command post, police said.

Tanto died on the spot due to multiple bullet wounds in his chest. Caburnay was last seen fleeing from the village of Ladtingan where he resides.
