Manila suspends classes for Black Nazarene feast

By Gabriela Baron

Classes in all levels are suspended in Manila on Jan. 9 in observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, according to Mayor Honey Lacuna.

Lacuna released Executive No. 1 Wednesday, Jan. 4, declaring suspension of classes in all levels and local government work in Manila.

Meanwhile, suspension of work in the national government offices and private companies in the city is left to the discretion of their management.

Lacuna also imposed a liquor ban from Jan. 7 to 9.

The Traslacion or the procession of the Black Nazarene is suspended again for the third straight year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in-person masses will still be held at the Minor Basilica in Quiapo starting 12 midnight on Jan. 9. -ag
