Marines to showcase Sulu artworks in exhibit

MANILA — In a bid to show that there is more to Sulu than conflicts, the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) in partnership with various stakeholders will conduct its “Huminang” art exhibit at SM Aura Atrium and Metro Gallery on Thursday and on May 12, respectively.

The art exhibit will feature 60 works from school children of Sulu, Marine troops and 13 Mindanaoan visual artists, PMC spokesperson Capt. Rowena Dalmacio said.

Supporting this endeavor are the PMC’s Marine Battalion Landing Team-1, the local government of Sulu, Sulu Tourism Office, Joint Task Force Sulu, SM Cares, SM Aura and Go Negosyo.

“Huminang” is a Tausug word which means “to create,” Dalmacio added.

Funds raised by the art exhibit will help Joint Task Force Sulu’s campaign to stop terrorism and promote tourism instead. (Priam Nepomuceno with reports from Ericka Cirera, OJT/PNA)
