Mayon-affected families now at 12K

MANILA — The number of families affected by the series of Mayon Volcano’s phreatic explosions has climbed to 12, 214 which is equivalent to 48, 614 persons as of Tuesday morning.

This was bared by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad in an update.

The affected families are residents of 39 barangays from Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Santo Domingo, and Legaspi City, all in Albay.

Jalad said 7,455 families or around 28,486 persons were being served inside 29 evacuation centers while another 1,518 households or 6,850 individuals were being aided outside.

The Philippine Institute on Volcanology on Monday raised the Mayon Volcano’s alert level to 4 after it billowed two successive 10-km cauliflower-type ash column, sending heavy ash falls in the towns of Camalig, Guinobatan, and Ligao City. (PNA)
