Mayor Inday orders police, military to ‘overprepare’ for Kadayawan

To ensure the safety of revelers, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte asked security forces, more than the usual, to make the security preparation for the celebration of the week-long 32nd Kadayawan sa Davao.

She said they should actually make over preparations, which means they should “prepare more than the standard preparation for the Kadayawan.”

She said the security preparation should ensure that Dabawenyos will have a safe celebration.

Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) Chief Benito De Leon said security forces are all set for the big event slated August 14 to 20.

“We are all set for the Kadayawan,” he said. “This has been a long, ongoing planning for the last months.”

De Leon said that an estimated 17,000 personnel will be deployed in the entire city during the week long revelry.

He said among the measures they have started implementing is the so-called “stop and frisk procedure,” to check and ensure that no unauthorized individual carry weapons, including firearms.

Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, the city police chief, said the “stop and frisk procedure” has already started under Oplan Kalasag.

“We are now implementing Oplan Kalasag which is our counter criminality effort against the bringing of bladed weapons, firearms and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) on the streets of Davao,” Tagum said. | CIO
