Medals for 2 Negrense cops hurt while serving arrest warrant

BACOLOD CITY — The two Negros Occidental policemen wounded in a shootout with a murder suspect who resisted arrest in Sipalay City received the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” or the Philippine National Police Wounded in Action Medal on Thursday night.

Police Officer (PO) 3 Joy Pabera and PO2 Armando Luis Arsenal, both personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, served the arrest warrant to Emerson Antipaso, 35, in Sitio Indangawan, Barangay Manlucahoc in Sipalay City at about 12:25 p.m. Thursday.

Antipaso, the number one most wanted person of the Sipalay City Police Station, engaged the policemen in a firefight that resulted in his death.

Pabera, who is confined at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, received the medal from Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas), who visited him Thursday night.

Binag lauded the two police officers for their bravery and dedication to the service.

Pabera was hit on his left side and his left hand while Arsenal, who was not confined, was slightly injured on the head by pellets from the suspect’s improvised shotgun. (PNA)
