Message of Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on the observance of Undas

We’re one with the whole Christian community on the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

In these days of remembrance, let us honor our departed loved ones and pray for the eternal repose of their souls. Let us cherish the fond memories we have shared with them, and think back on the ways they have enriched our faith and made a profound impact on our lives.

May we also remember the significant roles and prodigious lives our saints have impressed upon us, and how they have made us closer and more faithful to God.

As we remain under the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to observe these days in the traditional sense given that all cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbariums will be closed from October 29 to November 4, and visitors allowed in said venues will be limited to 30 percent capacity.

Let us be reminded that this sacrifice will help prevent the spread of the disease, and that our duty is not only to protect ourselves and our loved ones, but others as well.

As we adapt alternative ways to make our solemn observances, let us remember the practice of minimum health standards, so that we may truly and collectively heal and recover from the pandemic.

May this occasion inspire us to further strengthen our faith in the Lord, as well as uphold the values and traditions that further unite us as one nation.

We wish everyone a peaceful and meaningful All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
