Metro Manila streets flooded amid heavy rains

Some streets in the National Capital Region (NCR) were flooded Monday evening following the intense rainfall that triggered heavy traffic along EDSA.

Based on the monitoring of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), floodwater reached above gutter-deep level at 3:44 p.m. at the EDSA-Santolan Service Road (Northbound), while the water reached gutter-deep level at the EDSA-Quezon Avenue MRT (Southbound).

Flooding was also reported at EDSA-Quezon Avenue Centris (Northbound) and Mindanao Avenue-North Avenue (Northbound). Three lanes were affected by the gutter-deep water at EDSA-Balintawak.

The E. Rodriguez and G. Araneta intersection was submerged waist-deep.

Meanwhile, first alarm was raised as water level in Marikina River reached 15.4 meters before 5 p.m. amid heavy rains. The water level went down to 15.3 meters at past 5 p.m. The Marikina Disaster Risk-Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said residents of low-lying areas are told to prepare for possible evacuation under Alert Level 1 but a directive has not yet been issued on the implementation of a pre-emptive evacuation. The DRRMO likewise assured that evacuation areas in Marikina are ready in case of evacuation. – Report from Ryan Lesigues
