Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate climbs to 14.6%

Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate climbed to 14.6%, the OCTA Research Group reported Friday, July 22.

The previous COVID-19 positivity rate of the region was at 14% on July 15.

“A few days ago, we reported that the daily positivity rate in the [National Capital Region] (NCR) may have peaked. This was based on the data obtained from testing laboratories [of the Department of Health,” OCTA Research Group Fellow Dr. Guido David said.

David, however, noted that “it is not yet clear what is driving this change in trends.”

“It is also not clear at this time when the peak will be reached in the NCR. Our projections show around 3,000 new cases nationwide on July 22, with about 1,100 in the NCR,” David continued.

“Cases are now rising in many parts of the country. The new subvariants are immune evasive. We strongly advise the public to observe caution,” he added. — ag
