MIAA expects influx of passengers on Holy Week

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Wednesday, March 29, that it expects approximately 1.2 million passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Saturday until the end of Holy Week.

MIAA said that preparations are in full swing as well as the scheduled relocation of terminals to NAIA beginning in April.

MIAA stated that it will be done to ramp up the capacity of the airport that was only designed to accommodate 31.8 million.

 It noted that passengers who traveled in the country in 2019 reached 48 million.

As for the issue of passenger offloading, MIAA said that there are 60 to 70 immigration officers that will be added during the Holy Week to speed up the queuing of passengers at the immigration.

MIAA said there will be a huge change in NAIA after the Holy Week starting from April 16, with Philippine Airlines’ international flights to be gradually transferred from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, including Singapore, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, and Ho Chi Minh.

At the same time, some international airline trips from Terminal 1 will also be transferred to Terminal 3.

It will continue until July where the last to be moved are some domestic flights of AirAsia Philippines from Terminals 3 and 4 to Terminal 2.

Meanwhile, MIAA reported that the number of passengers that surpassed pre-pandemic levels at 103%. – Report from Karen Villanda/KC-ag
