Be ‘mindful’ of what you post online, PCOO employees told

MANILA — Officials and employees of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) have been reminded to be “mindful” of the things they post and share on their social media accounts.

PCOO Undersecretary for New Media and External Affairs Lorraine Marie Badoy made the advice in a memorandum issued last Monday.

“The undersigned would like to remind you, along with all officials and employees, of our role in creating a positive impact towards gender issues and portrayal of women in the media since we play a crucial role in raising public awareness and shape public opinion,” Badoy stated in the memo shared to Palace reporters on Thursday.

“Hence, please be mindful of the content you post or share on your personal social media accounts, as well as other publications and press releases your office may publish,” she added.

Badoy cited some provisions under Republic Act No. 6713 which states, that a public official or employee shall observe “standards of personal conduct in the discharge and execution of official duties.”

The law also provides that “Public officials and employees shall perform and discharge their duties with the highest degree of excellence, professionalism, intelligence, and skill. They shall enter public service with utmost devotion and dedication to duty. They shall endeavor to discourage wrong perceptions of their roles as dispensers or peddlers of undue patronage.”

Media units and agencies under the PCOO are the People’s Television Network, News and Information Bureau, Philippine News Agency, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Broadcasting Service or Radyo Pilipinas, Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM), Bureau of Communications Services, National Printing Office, and APO Production Unit, Inc. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
