MANILA — Trucks of concessionaires Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company Inc. that will deliver water to residents that are affected by the current supply shortage in parts of Metro Manila are exempted from the number coding scheme, a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) official said on Friday.

MMDA chief of staff Michael Salalima said the move is to facilitate the delivery of essential water supplies to areas that have low water pressure within the past few days.

“Our efforts now on the ground is to assist the water delivery of properly labeled water tankers of MWSS (Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System), Manila Water, Maynilad and other entities doing its social response,” Salalima said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered the MWSS to demand from its concessionaires the release of water from the Angat Dam starting Friday noon good for 150 days to supply areas in Metro Manila that are affected by the water shortage.

Salalima said the MMDA has deployed its trucks since last weekend to assist the local government units (LGUs) of the cities of Mandaluyong and Pasig in delivering water.

“The MMDA is willing to provide its resources if the LGUs are in need of assistance to deliver water within their jurisdictions. The MMDA will continue its full monitoring of the situation,” Salalima said.
