Motorcycle-riding teen killed in Cavite shootout

DASMARIŇAS CITY, Cavite – One of the two teenagers riding-in tandem on motorcycle was killed in a shootout with policemen on Jose Abad Santos Avenue, near Aguinaldo Highway in this city Sunday morning.

A police officer was wounded during the shootout between the two teeners and responding policemen.

Police identified the slain teenager as Sean Christian Contacte Martinez, 14, Grade 8 student; and his wounded companion as Gerald Orquillas Martinez, 15, Grade 9 student, both residents of Barangay Paliparan 2 in this city.

Police investigators disclosed that around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, a mobile police team patrolling the stretch of Jose Abad Santos Avenue towards Aguinaldo Highway saw two suspicious male persons riding in tandem on a red Honda XRM motorcycle without plate number.

The police officers flagged down the motorcycle for interrogation as the motorcycle had no plate number/no headlight.

Sean Christian, the motorcycle driver, stopped and alighted from the motorcycle. But instead of obeying police request for the status of the motorcycle in question, Sean Christian drew a caliber .45 pistol and successively shot the police officers, hitting PO1 Leo Tallud on his right leg.

As the wounded Tallud was immediately rushed to the Dela Salle University Medical Center here for immediate medical treatment, his companion, Police Officer 1 Abdul Samad Daud, called up the police station to report the incident and requested for back-up.

Responding policemen were dispatched and a firefight ensued, killing Sean Christian while his companion Gerald Martinez surrendered voluntarily.

Police recovered the Red/Black Honda XRM motorcycle; a M1911AI .caliber .45 pistol with serial number ‎2350948 and extended magazine; a stainless magazine holster; and a pistol holster.

The arrested suspect is temporarily in the custody of the city police awaiting social welfare officer for the case of a minor offender. (Rogelio Limpin/PNA)
